June 15, 2016

John M. Hament and Gail E.Farb recently presented to Districts VII and XIII of the Florida Health Care Association (FHCA), Florida’s first and largest advocacy organization for long-term care providers and the elderly and disabled individuals they serve. Their presentation, which took place at the association’s Labor and Employment Law Seminar on May 18 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., focused on recent and important issues in the complex and rapidly changing area of labor and employment. Only hours after the President and United States Secretary of Labor announced the publication of long-awaited changes to federal overtime pay exemptions, Mr. Hament and Ms. Farb discussed them in the seminar. They also covered other cutting edge topics such as gender identity and sexual orientation in the workplace, religious accommodation, use of criminal background checks, increased OSHA penalties, and other recent initiatives of the DOL, EEOC, and NLRB. Mr. Hament and Ms. Farb presented to over 70 owners, operators, and human resource professionals of long-term care facilities and vendors who support them.

Mr. Hament is a board certified specialist in labor and employment law. He focuses exclusively on advising and representing private and public-sector employers in virtually all industries, in matters and litigation relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour law, discipline, discharge, restrictive covenants, severance agreements, personnel policies, union collective bargaining negotiations, arbitrations, mediations, union organizing campaigns, unfair labor practices, strikes, internal investigations, and OSHA.

Ms. Farb focuses on labor and employment law, advising management clients regarding preventive measures in a wide variety of employment-related matters such as those listed above. She has significant experience defending single-plaintiff and collective labor and employment legal actions in administrative, state, and federal court proceedings.
